Day 16 began with a delicious breakfast at the SkyCity Restaurant at the top of Seattle Space Needle. This unique restaurant slowly rotates 360 degrees to give an amazing view of Seattle. We could see for miles! A few of of the popular sights seen from from the Space Needle include Puget Sound, Lake Union, CenturyLink Field, the Seattle Great Wheel, and even a small glimpse of Mt. Rainier! After breakfast, the crew went up to the observation deck for more picture opportunities.
Our next activity was a bus tour around Seattle. We had a native Seattleite, Dan, as our step-on tour guide. He was both captivating and informative. We learned a lot about the city and its emerging role in the technology industry. Our tour stops included Kerry Park, which had a great view of the city, the Fisherman's Market and Memorial, and the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks.
The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, also known as the Ballard Locks, creates a link for boats between the salt water of Puget Sound and the fresh water of Lake Union and Lake Washington. We also learned about the fascinating migration of salmon through the Locks.
The tour ended at the famous Pikes Place Market where the crew was given time to explore the city as they chose. Some of the hot spots included the original Starbucks, shopping centers, and the Seattle Aquarium.
Next stop, Gold Beach, Oregon!
